Claimed Public right of Way – Speen

The track through College Plantation from Hampden road Speen through to Spring Coppice Lane has been used for many years by local horse riders but is currently not defined as a Bridleway on the Definitive map the BHS is currently looking into getting it upgraded to a Bridleway but has very little in the way of evidence to support it’s use other than the hoof print’s on the path itself and a few user evidence forms.
Additionally the claimed route finishes on public footpath (GLH/1). If the
Claim is made for the path to be a bridleway, it will finish the path as Dead End for horse riders.

It is possible to upgrade whole or part of GLH/1 as a bridleway providing there is enough user evidence by horse riders. (so fill in the forms)

If we local riders do not want to lose yet another of our paths it’s up to all of us to take an active part in providing evidence (by filling in an "Evidence Form") that we have and do use the path and to pass this information on to as many  other riders as you can.

The Residents of Coleheath Bottom, despite my pleas to keep it as a Bridleway, are determined that they are going to have it designated as a Foot path which means that you will no longer be able to ride along it and once again forced onto the 60 MPH roads.

Excerpt from my communication with Julian Buxton was as follows ;

"The reasoning for the footpath application is on behalf of the local people."

I have pointed out that "I am also a local person and so are all the other horse riders that use that track so why are we less valid than those who live on Coleheath Bottom."

I have not had an answer to that and i have failed to get him to understand that weather the track is designated a "Footpath" or a "Bridleway", i could still be upgraded to a BOAT (not a RUPP, as they no longer exist), he is adamant that is only possible if it's a Bridleway.

The Footpath application is to stop the 4x4 off roaders using the woods, although his original application was to make it a Bridlepath.

The people that will be hardest hit are the local horse riders.

Unfortunately, we actually have other horse riders actively acting against making it a Bridleway as they live adjacent to the woods acting in their own interests to the detriment of the rest of us Horse Riders!

Please don't forget to tell the single horse owners not just the big yards – our strength is in numbers so we all need to work together.

There needs to be a central information point so please contact alison.clayton130@btinternet.com

BHS Chief Area Bridleway's Officer.

All you need to do is fill in an "Evidence form", nothing more - save your riding, it's up to you!

I can't do it without your help!

Our Council Contact wants to pursue this as a track for horse riders, but she MUST be shown by Riders that they are interested, by having the "Evidence Forms" - it only takes a few minutes to fill them in - so go on, be a hero and lead the way to taking an active role in getting a "Designated Bridleway" put onto the "Definitive Map"

Even if you haven't ridden on this path or didn't know about it, then still fill in a form to register your interest as  the council do need to see that enough riders are interested in this off road riding make it a Bridleway.

If Horse riders show sufficient interest in participating and taking an active part in this this project, i may well look into the possibility of setting up a Bridleway's Association in order to try to gain more Off Road routes for Riders to use.
